I thoroughly enjoyed reading this hard-to-put down mystery.  For hours, I was hooked—ever so anxious to find out how this fascinating tale would turn out.  At age 12, Tony gives in to peer pressure with some friends to pull off a prank on the banks of Wolf River in southern Mississippi.  He is attacked by an alligator and comes within an inch of dying.  He is rescued by a neighbor, Clarissa (nicknamed the Witch, an undeserved title).  Twenty years later, Tony comes back to save Clarissa from charges of murder.  The author shows us how Tony, a criminal defense attorney and his associate partner, Harley, have to be very creative to get the real killer (the Wolf) to come out of hiding.  The rest is yours to learn from this suspense-filled book.

I really enjoyed this page-turner! I sat down on a dreary morning intending to read a couple of chapters but the story and suspense kept me hooked. I ended up finishing the entire book in one day because I couldn’t put it down. Highly recommend for anyone who loves a gripping mystery/whodunnit!

What is more deadly, the gators in the water or the shadows on the riverbank? Doug Draper takes you on a journey down the Wolf River where at every bend the plot takes a turn that could capsize the case of lawyer Tony Moretti who has the challenge to defend the indefensible. The mix of local gossip, lifelong loyalty, and river folklore makes this murder mystery more surprising  than extra crawdads in a Cajun gumbo. Put your feet up , pull the paddle out of the water, and enjoy the ride but watch out—don’t let the Witch get cha!!
